THE RANDOM THOUGHTS
In 2010, Cali Swag District decided to change the game and release an absolute banger in "Teach Me How to Dougie" in which they taught the world a valuable lesson...how to Dougie. Following its release, various different rendition began developing on how to Dougie, but the most famous of all came from Johnathan Hildred Wall Jr., or as many of you know him as, John Wall, in 2010, the same year "Teach Me How to Dougie" was released. The former Kentucky Wildcat John Wall was drafted number one overall in the 2010 NBA Draft to the Washington Wizards, and for his intro into his first ever NBA game, Wall Dougie'd out to "Teach Me How to Dougie" in a way I'm honestly jealous in because I've always wanted to be able to Dougie and 12 years later I still can't do it. Earlier this year, I was one of the only black people at a wedding and "Teach Me How to Dougie" came on and everybody looked at me and started chanting my name to Dougie but I had to shut that down fast before I embarrassed myself but enough about me.
Now, fast forward 12 years later and Wall is now a Los Angeles Clipper after signing a 2 year / $13,281,950 contract and sitting out the whole 2021-22 season with the Houston Rockets. Yesterday during an open practice, Wall returned the Dougie in a fashion that brought tears to a lot NBA fans eyes to see such a legendary moment in history that has been gone for so long and brought back old memories of Wall during his younger days in the league. It's such a great sight to see in Wall having fun again and enjoying himself with his new team after suffering and dealing with injuries over the past 10 or so years. I want to end this by shedding light on something serious though. Since the release of "Teach Me How to Dougie", the Cali Swag District, who was made up of Corey "Smoove Da General" Fowler, Chante "OFB Yung" Glee, Cahron "JayAre" Childs and Montae "M-Bone" Talbert have tragically lost two of their members in Cahron Childs and Montae Talbert. Talbert, at age 22, was the victim to a drive by shooting in Inglewood outside of a liquor store in which he was shot twice in the head on May 15th, 2011, almost a year after the group released "Teach Me How to Dougie". Childs passed away in 2014 due to his suffering from sickle cell anemia that led to him going into cardiac arrest at the age of 25. It saddens me to even think about because I am only 25 and to think Childs and Talbert were my age and had their lives tragically taken from them at such a young age brings a heavy pain to my heart just thinking about what their friends and family had to deal with in the aftermath of it all and what all they could have accomplished had they never passed away. R.I.P. JayAre and M-Bone, you will always be legends in my eyes for the joy you brought to your fans all around the world, especially me.
